The homeowner's vision was clear: turn an unfinished basement into a dedicated indoor soccer training space worthy of a serious player.
Haussmann Builders delivered something truly one of a kind. The construction started with a smart engineering decision: before any drywall went up, every wall was first sheathed with OSB panels — creating a rigid, impact-resistant substrate that protects the finished walls from the inevitable force of a soccer ball.
Over the OSB, we applied drywall finished with Benjamin Moore Scuff-X, a premium paint specifically engineered to resist scuffs, marks, and impact — the perfect choice for an athletic environment.
The ceiling was framed with a clean coffered detail to accommodate all HVAC ductwork, and recessed LED lighting was installed throughout to evenly illuminate the entire playing surface.
The star of the show is the turf itself — professional-grade artificial grass sourced from the same Georgia-based manufacturer that supplied the practice field for the Philadelphia Union MLS soccer team. It brings a level of authenticity and performance to the space that no standard basement floor ever could.
A futsal goal outline — framed with trim and painted directly on the end wall — completes the training setup, giving players a real target to practice against without the need for a freestanding net.
